With a confessed gearhead of a mother who is dying for some quality outdoors time (a hunger largely fed by obsessively watching gear review/hiking tips videos on YouTube as study breaks...), Scarlet was the beneficiary of an REI splurge that got her set up with a backpack, shoes, and jacket to get us started. We're lucky enough to live near lots of paths for "hiking" through the "jungle," so the first time we got a chance -- we packed up and got out there! (Note: for Scarlet, the packing up basically consisted of strapping her empty pack on... we'll work on getting her to actually carry things in it another day). Scarlet wasn't too keen to let me back away from her, so the photography opportunities were limited. Plus, for the second 2/3 of the trip, she had bailed and we made use of the back-up Ergo option. Nonetheless, hip hip hooray for our first hike!
